Which destinations around the world are digital nomads most excited about? A new survey reveals the most desired digital nomad hotspots of 2023.
Flatio, an online marketplace for mid-term rentals that’s perfect for digital nomads, recently released the results of a survey of over 1,200 digital nomads.
One question asked about which countries digital nomads were most excited to visit next.
While Portugal was just named the best country in the world for digital nomads according to this survey, here are the destinations where digital nomads want to go next:
1. Spain
Spain tops the list, with 14.5% of respondents saying this is the country they want to go to next. Spain is perfect for digital nomads, whether you’re looking for fast-paced city life or a more laid-back lifestyle at the beach.
Madrid and Barcelona are two of the most popular cities in Spain for digital nomads, while Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands is a great base for digital nomads who want year-round sunshine.
Compared to the rest of Western Europe, Spain is a very budget-friendly destination second only to Portugal, especially once you get outside the big cities.

2. Brazil
Another one of the most desired digital nomad destinations of 2023 is Brazil. More than 13% of digital nomads said they would love to live in Brazil next.
Brazil is one of many countries that has launched a digital nomad visa specifically targeted at foreign remote workers who want to live and work in Brazil.
This large and diverse country is also home to South America’s first digital nomad village. From vibrant big cities like Rio to charming beach towns, Brazil is a great place for digital nomads.
3. Madeira
Madeira is an autonomous region of Portugal made up of several islands off the coast of Africa. While mainland Portugal is extremely popular with digital nomads, these tiny islands are proving to be another big hotspot for remote workers.
Madeira lures visitors with affordable prices, year-round sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and a quaint coastal charm.

I don't understand how Portugal can be a good destination when they just had a huge demonstration to protest high rent! I think what is happening is Nomads have more money to spend and that is raising the rent for the locals.Would you please address that?

@Belinda Seaton, Thanks for sharing your opinion on this - it's definitely something important that should not be brushed off. However, I don't think digital nomads are the sole cause of the cost of living crisis in Portugal. Foreign investment, an overall rise in tourism, and a lack of new construction have an impact too. But thanks for raising an important consideration on this.
