3 Cities in Mexico Ranked Best In The World

The 3 cities in Mexico that made the top 10 were Puebla in 8th, Puerto Vallarta in 5th and Merida in 1st for the category ‘Best Small Cities in the World’.

Puebla, Mexico

The secret is out on Puebla. The city is known for its stunning architecture featuring 365 churches and more than 1000 colonial buildings. Start with the Puebla Cathedral and its beautiful pipe organ or the Church of Santo Domingo, where the gilded Capilla del Rosario shines bright in gold. On the food front, Puebla is noted as the birthplace of the decadent and spicy mole poblano.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta features traditional charm and moden luxury

Puerto Vallarta does have a resort feel in areas but it has worked hard to maintain its authenticity by combining local culture and traditions with modern day luxury. There’s winter whale watching in Banderas Bay, an artisan market with local goods, and, just a half-hour boat ride south, the quiet shores and waterfall hikes of Yelapa Beach. From discovering the charm of old town to walking miles of pristine beaches it’s easy to fall in love with this romantic city. The city has a liberal attitude and features one one of largest gay-friendly scenes in Mexico.

Merida, Mexico

Merida features stunning colonial architecture and is steeped in Mayan history

Ranked for 2019 as the ‘Best City in the World’, Merida, Mexico takes the crown for the small cities category. The streets of Mérida are bursting with the colorful facades of Spanish colonial architecture, but the capital of Mexico’s Yucatan state is also steeped in Mayan history. Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, UNESCO World Heritage sites like the ancient cities of Uxmal and Chichen Itza are an easy day trip, or head 40 minutes north to the beaches on the Gulf shore in Progreso.
