Ask a traveler where they are headed this year, and they might as well respond with, “Earth!”. Tourism records seem to be breaking all over the globe, anywhere from Texas to the Middle East.

Statistics from 3 European countries were recently revealed, and they are seeing record numbers as well.

Whether it’s passport delays, summer travel chaos, and rising airfare – nothing seems to get in the way of travelers making their way to Europe.

There are so many amazing places to visit; it’s no wonder travelers are splurging on trips even with skyrocketing travel costs.

Whether it’s FOMO or just an unshakeable case of wanderlust, travelers have made Europe the place to be this summer, no matter the cost.

These 3 countries are experiencing tourists in record numbers:

Why Has Denmark Become So Popular?

Tourism numbers in Denmark were shattered last year and on par to break again this year, according to DI Tourism and Experiences.

Hotels and vacation rental bookings have been skyrocketing, with an expected increase of 100,000 bookings compared to 2022.

International guests are a big factor in this surge. Denmark is a spectacular country bordering Germany and Sweden.

In part, travelers are embracing Denmark’s beautiful summer season and renting vacation homes rather than jetting off to the sweltering heat of other European nations.

Denmark has always been accessible, with the major city of Copenhagen offering plenty of international connectivity from its large airport.

@traveller.james The city of Aalborg is located in the North of Denmark and was my next stop on my travels through Denmark and Germany. Accessible direct by train from other major cities in Denmark or you can fly to Aalborg airport if coming from further abroad. The weather was so kind to us with blue skies and sunshine and the buildings in Aalborg are so beautiful- with a mixture of coloured cottages, half timbered houses and red brickwork houses. Theres also loads of cafes and restaurants and I can of course recommend heading down to the port to admire the beautiful views 💗 Dänemark sieht während dem Frühling so hübsch aus 💗🌸 Die Stadt Aalborg befindet sich in Nord Dänemark und war mein nächster halt auf meine Reise durch Dänemark und Deutschland gewesen. 🇩🇰🌸 #aalborg #aalborgcity #denmarktravel #denmarktravelvlog #denmarktrip #traveldestination #studenttravel #reiseziel ♬ GASLIGHT – INJI

But there is a new route to a lesser-known region of Denmark – Aalborg. This charming city to the north dates back to 700AD and still offers medieval touchstones throughout town.

Rather than go to trendier countries experiencing over-tourism, Denmark is the perfect place to get away from home and avoid the massive crowds.

Why Is Austria Breaking Tourism Records?

Data from Statistics Austria shows this gorgeous country shattered tourism records with well over 8 million overnight visitors in May alone.

The capital city of Vienna is home to stunning architecture at every turn, a captivating history, and a diverse culinary scene.

Whether simply passing through or making Vienna a mainstay, travelers instantly fall in love with the capital city. Vienna has a major airport and can be easily reached from many countries.

Many head to the smaller city of Salzburg as well. Home to a historic Old Town district designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and surrounded by astonishing nature, travelers rarely have a bad word to say about Salzburg.

Pop culture also has a big influence on Austria right now. So much so the small town of Hallstatt had to put up a makeshift fence to deter selfies.

The hit Disney movie, Frozen, was inspired by this town. Now selfie-takers are frozen in their tracks, unable to see the stunning views and inspiration behind the mega-popular family film.

Even though the town has less than 1,000 residents, there have been reports of as many as 10,000 tourists coming through per day.

Why Are Travelers Going To Spain In Record Numbers?

Data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) claims over 8.2 million overnight visitors just in May of this year. That’s a new record.

Spain’s revenue is record-breaking too, with over 9 million Euros coming in. While travel costs have shot through the roof this year, that’s not the sole reason behind these numbers.

Spain has always been a dream destination for travelers when thinking of taking a trip to Europe.

Home to sprawling cultural cities, such as Madrid and Barcelona, travelers instantly fall in love with these major travel hubs.

This year maybe more than ever, travelers are flocking to beaches worldwide. Spain is home to plenty of them, including islands such as Tenerife and Mallorca.

Some off-path beach towns are becoming increasingly popular too. These dreamy getaways captivate travelers from the moment they step off the plane.

Whether it’s sipping wine, partying the night away in Ibiza, or having a more cultural experience in a major city, Spain never disappoints, and travelers have taken notice.
