The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Origination (UNESCO) has announced the newest Canadian addition to their honorable list of World Heritage Sites. The 20th Canadian destination to earn the title is Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park in Alberta.
This stunning provincial park is located on the northern edge of the Great Plains of North America, on the border between Canada and the United States of America. The Milk River Valley dominates the topography of this cultural landscape. There are large concentrations of picturesque pillars or hoodoos which are columns of rock sculpted by erosion into spectacular shapes.
The Blackfoot (Siksikáíítsitapi) people carved engravings and paintings on the sandstone walls of the Milk River Valley, which are believed to be messages from Sacred Beings. The archaeological remains date from as far back as 1800 BC to the beginning of the post-contact period. The carvings are believed to be over 2000 years old.

Writing on Stone provincial park is the 6th UNESCO World Heritage Site in Alberta and already receives over 60,000 visitors per year.
How to Get There
From Lethbridge follow AB-4 to Railway St in Milk River. Then take AB-501 E to Range Rd 130A in Aden. Then turn right on AB-500 and then turn right on to Range Rd 130A.
