This study looked at Google searches from the past 2 years and found these destinations to have the biggest increase for the keywords solo travel, based on the past 24 months.
Keep in mind these places are not necessarily the ones with the largest number of solo travel searches overall but with the largest increase in searches, meaning they are trending with travelers right now.
Here Are The Top 5 African Destinations Trending With Solo Travelers Right Now:
1. Mauritius, Indian Ocean
This idyllic island nation has seen nearly a 150% increase in Google solo travel searches in the past 12 months, with many hoping to come to explore its beauty.
With lush tropical green forests and soft and sandy beaches, you can choose luxury resorts or budget accommodations, and taking the local transportation is a good way to see some sights and experience a local vibe.
Although previously considered a honeymoon destination, Mauritius is gaining more attention with a wider audience, and solo travelers especially, as it’s considered quite a safe destination.

2. Cape Town, South Africa
South Africa’s capital city has also seen an almost 150% increase in Google solo travel searches in the past year and shows no signs of slowing down.
This vibrant city offers something for everyone, beaches, mountains, culture, fantastic wineries, and more. Join a group tour if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, or head to the beach and watch the wildlife.
Safety in Cape Town is something to pay attention to, and while the tourist areas are safe, walking alone at night and other precautions are advised.
3. Cairo, Egypt
Taking the third spot on the list of trending African destinations for solo travel is the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, which has seen an increase of just over 100% in the past year for solo travel searches.
Of course, the main thing to do here is to see the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx and the world-class Egyptian Museum. Don’t forget to explore some more lesser-known places with a guide and with proper safety precautions.
4. Seychelles, Indian Ocean
With a jump in solo travel searches, Seychelles is gaining more attention from travelers who are hoping to come to wander this tropical paradise.
Many will tell you that this island nation can actually be quite affordable for solo travelers, so long as you plan early.
