With the summer travel season winding down, many people are starting to think about where their next big trip might be. Some are looking to stay close to home, some are seeking sunny places, and some are ready for that bucket list trip they have been waiting for.

Luckily for American travelers, there is a new option for reaching one of Africa’s most coveted travel destinations, the stunning country of Kenya

A new partnership between Kenya Airways and Delta Air Lines is now offering customers direct flights between New York’s JFK Airport and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The new alliance allows passengers the chance to hop on the most direct route for the almost fifteen-hour flight, the opportunity for increased connections once in Africa, and not to mention all the benefits of booking with Delta, including points, rewards, loyalty status, and more.

Why Kenya?

This new partnership is a response to increased traveler demand between American travelers and Africa, with countries such as Kenya and other nearby destinations only growing in popularity.

As one of the continent’s leading tourist destinations, Kenya has a lot to offer. The cosmopolitan capital of Nairobi offers the chance to see how Kenyans in the big city live their daily lives and offers an eye-opening stunning contrast between the high rises and the sprawling slums which sit next to them.

Without leaving Nairobi you can experience a wealth of wildlife as well, such as the opportunities to get up close and personal with the rehabilitation of orphaned baby elephants and a first-hand account of a giraffe conservation program.

For the Out Of Africa fans, you can also visit the Karen Blixen museum, set amongst the impressive Ngong Hills.

Throughout Kenya you can find a wide range of accommodations, from tent camping to luxury properties, offering something for everyone’s budget. A safari is, of course, the most popular way to see the country and experience both the breathtaking views, a wide array of wildlife, and the cultural traditions of the people.

In addition to the city of Nairobi and the wealth of safaris, Kenya offers some idyllic African beach destinations to check out as well. Popular spots include the trendy Mombasa, Malindi, Watamu, and the very popular and beautiful Diani Beach.

So Much To Take In

If you are looking for that classic view of elephants and giraffes standing amongst the imposing backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro, then head to Amboseli National Park, located around four hours from Nairobi near the border of Tanzania, in the Loitokitok District in the Rift Valley.

Of course, if you are only in Nairobi on a stopover en route to another African destination, you can still squeeze in the chance to try and spot Africa’s majestic big 5, including the African elephant, lion, leopard, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros.

Located just four miles outside of Nairobi city limits you can visit the impressive Nairobi National Park to catch wildlife grazing among the grass.

Kenya is trending with solo travelers right now as well, for reasons including a wealth of attractions to fill your time, friendly locals, affordable accommodation, and ease of connections to other countries.

In addition to solo travelers, Nairobi is also gaining more recognition with the growing digital nomad community.

Its unique landscape with wildlife roaming just outside the city limits, good wifi and infrastructure, and a large expat community all make Nairobi a trending destination for remote workers.

Why Now?

Delta and Kenya Airlines’ new partnership comes at a perfect time for travelers, as fall is the ideal time to visit Kenya for many reasons.

Offering great weather, not too hot or cold, and with little chance of rain until later in the year, fall allows visitors the opportunity to see the country in its transition period.

Birdwatching is a highlight at this time of year, as is witnessing the great wildebeest migration (an absolute bucket list item, especially if you watch from a hot air balloon).

October brings the start of the shoulder season to this region, meaning fewer crowds, lower prices, and the chance to see the wildlife without 100 safari vehicles in your way.

So with fall being the best time to head to Kenya, and now that getting there is easier than ever from the U.S., it’s time to start planning that trip to this bucket list destination.
